I visited many places in New York City, and I would like to share with you information of some places that I visited one by one briefly. Here we go!
1) The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met)
Address 1000 5th Ave, New York, NY
Website http://www.metmuseum.org/
One of the three biggest art museums in the US. You can literally spend whole day in here. There are very rich collections. They have more than 2 million works of art. If you want to see everything, I recommend to go on Friday and Saturday which the open hours end until 9pm. Wheelchair accessible entrances are located on the Fifth Avenue and 81st Street and through the parking garage on the Fifth Avenue and 80th Street.
2) The Museum Of Modern Art (MoMA)
Address 11 W 53rd St, New York, NY
Website https://www.moma.org/
This soon became one of my favorite art museums in the world when I visited here last time in 2008. I was so happy to see “Girl before a Mirror” by Pablo Picasso again. If you are modern art lover, you must go and check it out. Coincidentally MoMa had an exhibit, A Japanese Constellation (It is still on until July 31) that impressed me. Also I was glad to find MUJI and UNIQLO products in MoMA’s gift shop. For Moon Riders (=wheelchair users), you might need to be patient a little to wait for an elevator.
3) Whitney Museum of American Art
Address 99 Gansevoort St, New York, NY
Website http://whitney.org/
This was my first time to visit this art museum…and I really love it! The layout, number of art works and gift shop, are more than I expected. The customer service is also good. Some floors have balcony and you can enjoy great views of NYC and Hudson River. The art museum opens until 10pm (!) on Friday and Saturday, so you would still have plenty of time to enjoy art if you come here on a Friday or Saturday afternoon.
4) American Museum of Natural History
Address Central Park West & 79th St, New York, NY
Website http://www.amnh.org/
I was really excited to see all the dinosaur collections especially. I completely understand why there were many kids with family and students from schools visiting there. The visit was entertaining and educational. If you are tired from exciting explorations of art work museums in NYC, I definitely recommend you to come and dive into the natural history!
5) Museum of Jewish Heritage
Address 36 Battery Pl, New York, NY
Website http://www.mjhnyc.org/
As I had an appointment in Lower Manhattan, I walked to the museum. It would be a great experience to learn about Jewish history and culture which we, people in Japan, do not have the chance to learn about the detail of Jewish culture at school. After enjoying the museum, you should see the beautiful view of Hudson River and take a walk on Hudson River Park too.:)
