It appears usually the person who asked this question is surprise by the answer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">My native language is Chinese (Mandarin).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mizuki\u2019s native Language is Japanese.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our first first dominant foreign language is English so most people assume we talk in English at home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We had been communicating in English when we first met in 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At the time, we didn\u2019t really share many mutual English vocabularies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I had spoken in English and Mizuki was usually able to guess what I was talking about and replied to me in Japanese. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I was sort of able to anticipate what she was trying to say.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After I graduated and went back to Taiwan, I decided to learn Japanese so I tried very hard to speak Japanese to her when we talked on Skype.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The four years of long distance relationship had some benefits. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I was able to increase my Japanese listening and speaking skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">However, it has its downside, too. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mizuki got so used to talking to me in Japanese so she cannot speak to me in English anymore. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">She can still speak English very well but she doesn\u2019t feel comfortable at speaking English when I am around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I guess her brain has associated me with Japanese and has a hard time to change the built-in language setting when speaking to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I would like to help her on improving her English proficiency but I don\u2019t know how\u2026..Orz&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the questions we are frequently asked is \u201cwhat language do you speak at home?&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":299,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"_uf_show_specific_survey":0,"_uf_disable_surveys":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[138,128],"tags":[86,87],"class_list":["post-8330","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-our-love-story","category-study-abroad","tag-different-thinking","tag-international-relationship"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8330","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=8330"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8330\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8331,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8330\/revisions\/8331"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/299"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8330"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=8330"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/moonrider7.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=8330"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
