One of the dramatic changes compared to my previous life in Tokyo is \u201ctaking a bus\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

I was very shocked when I first saw the time schedule. <\/span><\/p>\n

Very few buses are operating. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mostly 1 bus for 1 hour. <\/span><\/p>\n

I understand this because the passengers who can take this bus are only people who either go to Syracuse University or work there.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I lived in Tokyo, I took a bus only once a month. <\/span><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t need to take one, because I could go anywhere via train or subway.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the number of bus operation was pretty good. <\/span><\/p>\n

I checked the time schedule at the place where I used to live, and found13 buses comes and goes for 1 hour! Wow!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I kept complaining about this, but found a good point.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The good thing is\u2026the same driver drives for the same period of time everyday!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They remember me after I took the buses for several times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why am I happy about this? <\/span><\/p>\n

Because wheelchair users cannot get in bus without driver\u2019s help. <\/span><\/p>\n

In both Tokyo and US, we need to ask a driver to prepared a ramp for us to get on the bus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

When I first came to Syracuse, I was very nervous especially when taking a bus from the campus. <\/span><\/p>\n

There are 20-30 people waiting for the same bus. <\/span><\/p>\n

When the bus came, everyone just rushed on the bus. <\/span><\/p>\n

I was worried if the driver can find me in the crowd.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Mr. driver remembers me already!!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBack off, please!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He says to people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They give me a way and the driver pushes a ramp button (it gets ready automatically by the button near the driver\u2019s seat).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He even remembers where I gets off at the apartment area.<\/span><\/p>\n

I really appreciate his perfect support.<\/span><\/p>\n

I always say \u201cThank you. Have a good day\/night.\u201d with smile when getting off.<\/span><\/p>\n

I find a priceless merit in the limited bus operation. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For your information, there are many buses going around in Tokyo which means there are many drivers are driving.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, some drivers take care of passenger in wheelchair well,\u00a0 but some do not.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have met few drivers who obviously are mad at me when they see me taking a bus.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also have heard from some wheelchair users that they don\u2019t want to take a bus because of the driver\u2019s attitude towards passengers in wheelchair is bad.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
