Hi, this is Mizuki!<\/span><\/p>\n It has been 6 months since Jeff and I started a long-distance marriage life between Japan and US\u2026again. <\/span><\/p>\n People in the US often ask me \u201cDon\u2019t you feel lonely?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n W<\/span>ell, we had been through 4 years long-distance relationship before, so I am used to it. haha<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In this blog, we have shared some episodes about our relationship. <\/span><\/p>\n By doing so, we received messages from readers who are in the same situations such as people with disabilities, people in long-distance relationship, and people in international relationship. <\/span><\/p>\n This time, we would like to write our stories from the beginning one by one. <\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The next month I graduated from a junior college in Japan, the 20 years old me flew to Wisconsin in the US with other 6 Japanese students. <\/span><\/p>\n Study abroad has been my dream since 17 years old. <\/span><\/p>\n I studied hard and saved money to catch this dream. <\/span><\/p>\n I was just very excited to go to a new country, U.S.A. <\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n On the arrival day, I moved in a dorm which was for female students. <\/span><\/p>\n Some Japanese students lived in the same dorm and helped us a lot. <\/span><\/p>\n It was a totally new environment from my previous life in Japan. <\/span><\/p>\n I had new findings every day and it didn’t take time to love the new life. <\/span><\/p>\n Couple of days later, an older Japanese student asked,<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cDo you guys want to come to a party for international students?\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n We, new Japanese students, had not attended a regular class and didn\u2019t have a chance to meet other students yet. So, our answer was \u201cYES!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The party was held in a classroom located in the basement of library on campus. <\/span><\/p>\n When we got there, already many international students from different countries were eating and chatting. <\/span><\/p>\n At that time, we couldn\u2019t speak much English and didn\u2019t have the courage to talk to someone, so we kept talking in Japanese. <\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Then, one smiling guy came to us and said, <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHi, I\u2019m Jeff. What\u2019s your name? Where are you from?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n That was our first meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He could not speak Japanese but he could speak English then. <\/span><\/p>\n So I replied to him in English too.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMy name is Mizuki\u2026I am from Japan.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Jeff also asked the same question to other new Japanese students. <\/span><\/p>\n So I simply felt <\/span><\/p>\n (Oh, he must want to have more friends from other countries. )<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I moved to a different area to try to talk to other people, but after a while I noticed that Jeff came toward to me.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n (He probably came to this group because there were more people here.)<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I was thinking that way, and went to get more food in the different corner. <\/span><\/p>\n Then he followed me, and said<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhere are you going? Do you want to eat this? \u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I felt strange a little, but smiled at him and left from him quickly. But he came to me again.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n (There he is again.)<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I noticed him, but kept talking to other people. <\/span><\/p>\n Then, accidentally I spilled my juice to my pants. <\/span><\/p>\n As soon as Jeff saw it, he grabbed a piece of paper napkin and gave it to me quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n (Oh\u2026he is nice.)<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n When I was thinking this guy may be a nice person,<\/span><\/p>\n he asked me and other new Japanese students that,<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAre you single?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n We didn\u2019t really get the meaning and got confused. <\/span><\/p>\n Then Jeff continued,<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt means..you don\u2019t have boyfriend?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201c(Oh, he is asking if I have a boyfriend.) No, I don\u2019t have a boyfriend!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n After we had a casual fun conversation, I needed to leave for another appointment. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m leaving now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n I said to Jeff. Then he said,<\/p>\n \u201cDo you have phone here? Or e-mail address?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He did\u00a0 not ask only me, but also other new Japanese students too.<\/p>\n By seeing his attitude, I thought,<\/p>\n (Oh, he really want to have more international student friends.)<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I gave my email address and left the party. <\/span><\/p>\n I didn\u2019t have any special feeling to him, but didn\u2019t feel uncomfortable either. <\/span><\/p>\n The first impression to him was \u201csuper friendly guy\u201d<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Our long love story has started like this.\u00a0<\/p>\nOn April 7, 2007. <\/span><\/h6>\n
