We have many cloudy days in Syracuse.

It  rains often here, too.

I’m too lazy to wear a raincoat, so I just go out in rain without wearing it.

The other day, when I was waiting at a bus stop in the light rain, suddenly an international student from China talked to me.

My friend has an umbrella. Please use mine!

She said and handed out her folding umbrella towards me.

The bus in Syracuse usually do not come on time, not like the ones in Japan.

There is no roof at the bus stop, which means I get wet while waiting for a bus in the rain.

( She is very kind to lend her umbrella to a stranger…)

I was very impressed by her warm heart.

On another rainy day.

I was running from my office to the bus stop in the rain.

When I got closer to the bus stop, about 50m away, I noticed someone speaking Chinese from my back.

The voice was getting louder, so I looked back.

Then, again, another international student from China was talking to me and handing out his umbrella towards me.

Student:  (Speaking Chinese)

Me: “Ah…I’m going to that bus stop.”

Student: “The bus will come to this bus stop too.”  *There are 2 bus stops.

Me: “But I always take the bus from that bus stop, so…”

Student: ”I heard from police that there was a car accident, and the bus cannot park over there. You should go to this bus stop.”

Me: “Oh, really?”

Student: “The bus will come anytime soon. Let’s go. I can help you with the up-hill.”

He used his umbrella to cover me and pushed my wheelchair to go up-hill.

Thanks to him, I didn’t get very wet.

I was thinking to say “thank you” again to him.

When I got off the bus, I found him getting off the bus too.

Yes, he lives in the same building as I do!

“Thank you! You helped me so much!” I said.

“You are welcome” He replied with a shy smile.

I usually take the bus at the same time from the same bus stop.

I think he saw me waiting for a bus at the bus stop before.

On that rainy day, he found me going to the bus stop where the bus wouldn’t stop by, so he came to tell me “You shouldn’t go to that bus stop today”.

I’m simply amazed by a person who can immediately help a stranger in trouble.

Because we need courage to do that, right? I don’t know if I can do the same thing to a stranger.

It has been 1 month since I came to Syracuse.

There were lots of difficulties, but also lots of wonderful experiences like these.
